Canelo Alvarez wants to end Gennadiy Golovkin’s career says Eddie Hearn

By Sam Volz: Eddie Hearn says Canelo Alvarez wants to knockout Gennadiy Golovkin on September 17th and stand over him, knowing that he’s ended his career.

Hearn states that Canelo (57-2-2, 39 KOs) doesn’t just want to beat the 40-year-old Golovkin. He wants to destroy him utterly.

It’s believed that the main reason for Canelo’s desire to obliterate GGG and send him into retirement stems from all the “s***” that he said about him in the past after his two positive tests for the PED clenbuterol.

Golovkin and his former trainer Abel Sanchez had a field day criticizing Canelo after his positive tests, and he doesn’t seem to want to forget it.

As a result, Canelo is going into the trilogy fight against Golovkin with a lot of bad blood, and he wants to get his pound of flesh inside the ring on September 17th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

“I think the 168-lb limit is going to really help Gennadiy Golovkin in this fight,” said Eddie Hearn to ESNEWS. “People say, ‘Why? He’s been at 160 his whole career for exactly that reason.

“I think he found it very difficult to make the weight against [Ryota] Murata,” Hearn continued about Golovkin. “I feel he needs that stability in a fight. He can’t be weight drained in this fight.

“He’s got to be strong in this fight, and I think it’s going to really help him being at 168,” Hearn said.

Normally, it would help Golovkin to come into a fight at 168, but not against Canelo, who is firing on all eight cylinders and is still in the prime of his career.

If Golovkin weren’t so old, slow, and ring rusty, it would benefit him coming into the fight with Canelo at 168.

“Coming off a defeat, there’s a lot of pressure on Canelo Alvarez in this fight. He can’t afford to lose this fight,” said Hearn.

“Make mistake about it, Canelo Alvarez wants to destroy Gennadiy Golovkin. He doesn’t just want to beat him. He said to me, ‘I want to stand over him, having knocked him out, knowing his career is over.’

“So, he’s fired up. Gennadiy, wait until fight week. There’s going tobe a lot of shenanigans on fight week,” said Hearn.
