By Adam Baskin: Chris Eubank Jr vs. Conor Benn will be contested at a catchweight of 157 lbs on October 8th on DAZN PPV at the O2 Arena in London, England.
According to Dan Rafael, there will be a $100,000 per pound fine for either fighter if they come in over the 157-pound limit for the 12-round middleweight contest.
There’s no word yet whether there’s a rehydration limit as part of the contract. If so, that would be a double whammy for Eubank Jr, as he would not only need to boil down to 157 to make weight but then would need to limit how much he can gain back before a secondary weigh-in on the morning of the fight.
Eubank Jr is viewed as the early favorite to win, but we don’t know yet how the weight will affect him.
Recent wins for Eubank Jr:
- Wanik Awdijan
- Liam Williams
- Marcus Morrison
- Matt Korobov
“Benn-Eubank is a rivalry that extends over 30 years in the sport. As soon as these guys turned pro, it was the dream fight,” said Eddie Hearn to DAZN Boxing Show.
“It got to the point where Eubank is at the backend of his career, and Benn is at the start of his career in terms of big fights. The disadvantage to Conor is he has to move up a couple of divisions.

“The disadvantage to Eubank is he has to boil down a few pounds that he wouldn’t have to normally do. I couldn’t stop this fight from happening because of the fire in Conor Benn’s belly.
“I know people write Conor Benn off, but I really believe he’ll win the fight. We know the plan after is for him to become a welterweight world champion, but this fight, in its magnitude, was too big to say no.
“That’s something we have to consider, particularly on the weight on the fight because Conor Benn comes in very heavy on fight night for a welterweight, and Chris Eubank Jr comes in very light on fight night for a middleweight.
“It’s a bigger disadvantage for Conor Benn. It’s something that him and Tony Sims have to consider. This is a fight that the entire country will be talking about,” said Hearn.
