Rockstar’s upcoming GTA installment, GTA 6, will feature a female protagonist in a fictionalized Miami City setting.
According to the newest report from Bloomberg, the much-awaited sixth installment in the Grand Theft Auto series will have two playable protagonists, and one of them will be a Latina female character. “Rockstar’s plan is to continually update the game over time, adding new missions and cities on a regular basis, which leadership hopes will lead to less crunch during the game’s final month.” read the report from Bloomberg.
The Bloomberg report also shed light on the cultural changes within the multimillion-dollar studio, in the wake of the multiple controversies surrounding police violence.
The increasing instances of police violence in the United States caused Rockstar to shelve a game mode called ‘Cops ‘n’ Crooks’ in the summer of 2020. The newest report also reveals that the upcoming installment will feel ‘very different” from its predecessor.
Besides detailing Rockstar’s attempts to overhaul their workplace culture and overall goals with the game, the journalist revealed that the game will star a pair of two protagonists, influenced by Bonnie and Clyde. The inclusion of a female playable lead character is the studio’s attempt to address the series’ offensive depiction of women and misogynistic humor. Now set in a fictionalized version of Miami city, the game was earlier supposed to feature a giant map that covered parts of that North and South America.
“Production on Grand Theft Auto VI has been slower than expected, largely due to the pandemic but also due to these changes, as employees grow accustomed to working at this new Rockstar. But many say morale is higher than ever and that the cultural changes are well worth it,” revealed Jason Schreier.
Although we haven’t received any information regarding a release date for the upcoming crime epic, fans should expect to wait 2 more years as Rockstar engages all its resources to fast-track the game’s release.
