Need to merge multiple accounts when Overwatch 2 drops? We’ve got you covered!
With the release of Overwatch 2, players will finally be able to merge all of their accounts. This article will explain how to merge multiple Overwatch 2 accounts and cover everything you need to know about cross-progression.
What is cross-progression in Overwatch 2?
Overwatch 2 features cross-progression, meaning that everything you unlock on a platform can carry over to another one. All your skins, emotes, tags, and even your competitive ranks will no longer be linked to a platform, but to your Battle.Net account.
Cross-progression allows you to access the same content across several platforms. Every hero skin or progression you unlock on one platform is available on another. This lets you play Overwatch 2 on any console without having to start over.
Overwatch 2 will be available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
Why should I merge my Overwatch accounts?
Playing Overwatch 2 requires a Battle.Net account, no matter the platform. That wasn’t the case with the original Overwatch: a Battle.Net account was only required if you played on PC.
Since every Overwatch 2 players now need a Battle.Net account, Blizzard has to know which platform account belongs to you. To do so, you will be prompted to link your Overwatch console account to a Battle.Net account so you don’t lose all your progression.
How to merge Overwatch accounts?
Next time they log in, every console player will be prompted to identify and merge their Overwatch accounts. Once you select your accounts, Blizzard will prepare the merge for the release of Overwatch 2 this October.
All you need to merge your Overwatch accounts is Battle.Net. All data will be stored in this account, regardless of the platform.
Follow these steps to merge your console account to Battle.Net:
- Log in to Overwatch from your console account.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to scan a QR Code on your mobile phone.
- Enter the code displayed on your console to connect to or create your Blizzard Battle.net Account.
- Once complete, you will be prompted to confirm your account upon the next game login to merge your accounts.
You can also merge your console accounts from your PC through the Battle.Net Connections page.
Be careful if you want to merge your Overwatch 2 accounts: you can unlink your console account at any time, but there is a one-year cooldown before you can merge another console account to Battle.Net. Moreover, even if you can link a new console account after the merge, you won’t be able to import its skins and progress.
Can I merge multiple Overwatch PC accounts?
Having several Overwatch accounts on the same platform is quite common. There is even a term for gamers playing on a secondary account: smurfs. But if this technique is standard in Overwatch, Blizzard doesn’t encourage it.
You can merge one account per platform. This means you can merge a PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC account, but you cannot merge two PC accounts. The same goes for multiple PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo Switch accounts.
When you select an account to merge, double check which account you select as you won’t be able to merge another account from the same console.
What happens to my competitive rank if I merge multiple Overwatch accounts?
The competitive pools on console and PC are widely different. A Top 500 player on Nintendo Switch might not be able to reach the same rank on PC. Therefore, merging accounts can be tricky: what happens to your competitive rank?
Blizzard has the solution: instead of merging your competitive rank from console and PC together, they will be separated by console pool. You will have one rank for PC and one for console. If you merge multiple console accounts, Blizzard will save your highest competitive rank.
How does Battle.Net merge my statistics?
Gameplay statistics will be separated by console pool. You will have different statistics for your PC and console games.
If you merge several console accounts, your statistics will change. Total values, like your number of kills or playtime, will be summed across all platforms. Best values, like kill streak or hero accuracy, will take the best value out of all your console accounts.
Overwatch 2 will be available on October 4, 2022. The game will be available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch. If you have any additional questions about cross-progression, Blizzard set up a FAQ answering the most frequent questions.
