The Golden State Warriors won the 2022 NBA Championship despite not having one of the players they thought would be a key contributor. James Wiseman, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, was sidelined for the entire season after undergoing meniscus surgery during his rookie season.

Wiseman is oozing with potential, but there have been some rumors about whether or not the Warriors would trade him to bring in more established talent. But, it sounds as if Golden State is content with their young core, hoping they can help extend their dynasty even beyond when Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green are playing.

Staying healthy is the goal for Wiseman, as he has played in only 39 games in the first two seasons of his career. He has not appeared in a game since April 10th, 2021, but that streak will be coming to an end hopefully this week at the Summer League.

“Today felt great,” Wiseman said on June 29. “I feel good out there with the guys and just everything about it. I’m speechless. I feel good just playing again.”

On Sunday, Wiseman took another major step in his return as he took part in a 5-on-5 game as part of his ramp-up process to get back on the court. While he won’t play in the final game of the California Classic, he is on track to suit up at the Las Vegas Summer League, which has turned into a huge event for basketball junkies.

All the chatter has been positive when it comes to how Wiseman looked during the scrimmage. That is excellent news for him and the team, as it has been a long road back for Wiseman in his rehab for the injured meniscus.

Third-year players don’t normally get much playing time in Summer League, but James Wiseman will play as much as he can handle to get back on track. Whether it is one game or in every game, he and the Warriors will be ecstatic that he is back on the court in any capacity.
