By Charles Brun: The rematch between WBO light welterweight champion Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall will be announced in a week or two for Sky pay-per-view, says promoter Ben Shalom.

The rumored date for the Taylor-Catterall 2 rematch is February 4th in the UK. Shalom feels that the fight calls for it to be on pay-per-view, but obviously, many boxing fans would disagree.

If Taylor were fighting someone like Ryan Garcia, Gervonta Davis, or Teofimo Lopez, that would be a pay-per-view-worthy fight, but NOT Catterall.

Taylor (19-0, 13 KOs) has been inactive since beating Catterall (27-1, 13 KOs) by a questionable 12 round split decision last February in Glasgow, Scotland.

The 31-year-old Taylor has been talking about moving up to 147 for ages, but for some reason, he’s dragging his feet, wasting time by fighting lesser opposition at 140 instead of tackling the best at welterweight.

Catterall is a decent domestic-level fighter, but if you threw him into the ring with a quality 14o or 147-pounder like Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis, Regis Prograis, or Jose Zepeda, it would be a feeding frenzy.

The fact that Taylor couldn’t beat Catterall by a conclusive decision shows how flawed he is as a fighter.

“Again, deal done; the dates will be announced. The dates will be announced in a week or two,” said Ben Shalom to iD Boxing about Josh Taylor vs. Jack Catterall II.

“Look, the numbers involved to try and make that rematch again with Josh Taylor where is and Jack and everything like that, it demands it, unfortunately,” said Shalom when asked if the Taylor-Catterall 2 rematch will be on pay-per-view.

“What I will say is there will be chief support, there will be a huge card, but ultimately, a fight like that with the interest around it and with what that happened, it was tough to even not put it on pay-per-view the first time.

“There’s a reason why Josh is a unified champion and has been boxing. When have you ever seen a unification on British soil? I don’t think it’s happened before, and then it wasn’t pay-per-view for obvious reasons,” said Shalom about the first Taylor vs. Catterall fight last February.

“We’re trying not to put on pay-per-view. If you look at our schedule this year, I think there have only been two pay-per-views on Sky. Despite so many big shows, we’re trying to limit pay-per-views.

“Sometimes you have to do what you have to do, and prices won’t be increased on Sky as it stands. It will always be 20 pounds, but ultimately, we’ve done what we can this year to avoid too many pay-per-views to put as much value.

“We’ve done more British shows than any promoter on TV this year, and that one [Taylor vs. Catterall 2] might just demand it,” said Shalom.
