The Los Angeles Lakers suffered yet another loss to begin their NBA season on Wednesday night. They went on the road and faced the Denver Nuggets, but lost the game 110-99. The game wasn’t even as close as the score would indicate as Denver went on a big run in the third quarter to essentially put the game away.
There were a lot of eyes on this game because Russell Westbrook was sitting out with a hamstring injury. People wanted to see if the team would perform any differently without him in the lineup and it was a lot of the same that occurred in the first three games.
Los Angeles competes and plays at a high level on the defensive end, but on offense, they leave a lot to be desired. The 26.7 percent from 3-point range that they shot against Denver is sadly an improvement over what they shot in the first three games, which speaks volumes to how poorly constructed this roster is.
Head coach Darvin Ham has to figure something out to find a spark and get things moving in the right direction. Could a role change for Westbrook be the answer? According to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, while making an appearance on The Rally, that is something the team is seriously considering.

Austin Reaves, who started for Westbrook against the Nuggets, could permanently take his place in the starting lineup with the former MVP coming off the bench. It is something that Charania reports Westbrook and Ham have been discussing.
This was something that the Lakers tried in their final preseason game of the year, but it lasted a few minutes as Westbrook injured his hamstring. He said after the regular season opener that part of the reason he was injured was that he was unable to warm up correctly and was not ready to play, going as far as to say he doesn’t know how to come off the bench.

It is something that he is going to have to learn to do, and probably fast, as it sounds like that is the next course of action in Los Angeles. Reeves was 2-for-3 on 3-point attempts against the Nuggets, which is reason enough to keep him in the starting lineup as there has been zero spacing around LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
