There has been a lot of speculation about where LeBron James will end up at the end of his career. He has made it clear that he will spend the twilight playing alongside his son, Bronny, on whichever team he ends up on. Bronny looks like he will be eligible for the 2024 NBA Draft.

While James is committed to the Los Angeles Lakers for at least the next two seasons, as his contract is guaranteed through 2024, anything after that is guesswork. James has a player option for the 2024-25 season that he is almost assuredly doing to decline so that he can pick his next team as a free agent.

Teams will be scrambling to acquire draft capital, putting themselves in a position to select Bronny and subsequently acquire LeBron as well. It is hard to imagine there is a team in the league that won’t be interested in adding him to the roster.

Which team could he end up with? One team to definitely keep an eye on is the Dallas Mavericks according to Brian Windhorst of ESPN.

Windhorst recently made an appearance on Bill Simmons’ podcast and discussed the possibility of James teaming up in Dallas with Luka Doncic.

“One other team that I’ll bring up. I did mention earlier, Dallas. He does have an affinity for Luka,” Windhorst said. “That’s not exactly a hot take. He tried to get Luka — LeBron doesn’t have people who wear his brand, officially — when Luka signed with Nike, he wanted Luka to be like a LeBron guy. To be in the brand. Kind of like Jordan has all these guys. It didn’t up going that way. Luka ended up going with Jordan. … He does have his long ties to the Cowboys.”

In addition to what Windhorst said, Simmons added that there is no state tax in Texas, which is certainly appealing to players. Right now, Dallas does have their first-round selection in the 2024 NBA Draft, however, it could head over to the New York Knicks should their 2023 first-round pick not convey as it is top-10 protected.

Teaming up with one of the best young players in the NBA is never a bad plan either. James, who will be looking to end his career on a high note while still competing for championships, wouldn’t have many better players to hitch his wagon to than Doncic, a perennial MVP candidate.
