Tim Bradley says Ryan Garcia too flawed for Tank Davis

By Brian Webber: Tim Bradley says Ryan Garcia is still too badly flawed for him to have a chance of beating Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis if the two were to fight later this year in December.

While Bradley notes that the 23-year-old Ryan (23-0, 19 KOs) has made improvements in his game from his last fight against Javier Fortuna, he still has “too many holes in his game” for him to beat Tank Davis.

Ryan has made his mind up that he only wants the Tank Davis fight next, which is probably a foolish thing to do, but he wants the opportunity. If Ryan gets beaten, he’ll still walk away with millions from the fight, so it won’t be all that bad for him.

It’s going to be difficult to negotiate the Tank vs. Garcia fight, given Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya’s stance that Ryan is the A-side as well.

“You know what happens in that fight. Night-night,” said Tim Bradley to Fight Hub TV when asked what happens when Ryan Garcia fights Gervonta Davis.

“A puncher’s chance. Bro, that hook, that hook. I like Ryan. There’s a lot of holes to his game. I like the fact that he’s starting to develop his jab and use his jab a little more. I saw it a lot better.

“He wasn’t leaning forward when he was throwing his right hand. He was snapping his right hand. So I see some improvements in his game, but he stands straight up. His chin is exposed a lot.

“How do I explain it? The glass is half full with him. He’s not at his full potential yet. He’s not there yet. He’s getting better, but I would stay away from Tank because Tank is at his absolute prime, dude.

“This dude can box, this dude can punch, he can brawl. He’s a thinking fighter. He’s going to set up Ryan, and Ryan is going to get a little beside himself. Tank will lose some rounds. Tank will definitely lose some rounds purposefully.

“Get guys comfortable.  He’ll feel you out and let you wear down a bit, and then he’ll set you up. And once he catches you, his power stays the whole fight. He’s dangerous the entire night.

“Once he catches you, it’s night-night. He’s going to hurt you really bad and get you up out of there. But it’s a fight, me being a fan, I want to see it.

“I’m sick & tired of all the calling out. If you’re calling out someone, you’re not the top dog,” said Bradley about Ryan Garcia. “Ryan is getting money from everywhere. He’s probably making more money outside of boxing than he is in boxing.

“It’s coming to a point where he wants to get those bigger checks; he wants respect, so he’s trying to bark up different trees to see who will take the bait. I think a fight between him and Tank is the fight everyone wants to see.

“I think it sells the most. I think it does even more. He wants the fight. Me being a businessman, I would say, ‘Hell no, don’t do it.’ Me being a fan, I want to see it. If that’s what you want, make it happen.

“But if you’re calling out guys, you ain’t the A-side, you ain’t the dog. I’m just saying from my experience, knowing the game, it’s like if you want this fight, you got to take what comes with it.

“If they’re not willing to give you  50-50, that’s on you because you put a prize tag on yourself,” said Bradley about Ryan Garcia.
