North American esports organisation TSM has announced it will host a $100,000 (~£82,000) Apex Legend tournament.
The tournament, called the Apex Legends Winter Royale, will take place on December 12th and is set to feature 20 Apex Legends teams.
The TSM Winter Royale features a relatively large prize pool for an Apex Legends tournament that is not a part of the Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS). The ALGS is currently in its third year and will conclude its first split later this December.
TSM is no stranger to organising large Apex Legends tournaments. The organisation recently concluded its 2022 TSM Invitational which also featured a $100,000 (~£82,000) prize pool and was open to players from North America.
Apex Legends is an esport that has recently undergone an increase in popularity over the last 12 months. According to esports viewership website Esports Charts, the audience of major Apex Legends tournaments increased several times in the second year of the circuit, with the ALGS: 2022 Split 2 Playoffs seeing almost 700,000 peak viewers and the ALGS: 2022 Championship recording 630,000 viewers.
Interestingly, TSM did not share any further details regarding the Winter Royale, and it remains unclear whether the tournament will be invite-only or be open to the public. It is also unclear how the tournament itself will look like, and whether the event will adopt a different format compared to other Apex Legends competitive events.
