Britain’s Heather Watson reached the final round of US Open qualifying with victory against Vitalia Diatchenko.
Former British number one Watson – without direct entry into a major for the first time since the 2019 US Open – beat the Russian 6-2 6-3 in her second qualifying match.
The 30-year-old will face Czech Sara Bejlek for a place in the main draw.
Britain’s Paul Jubb also won but compatriots Katie Boulter and Liam Broady were both beaten on Thursday.
Jubb, who lost to Nick Kyrgios in five sets in the first round at Wimbledon, beat Portugal’s Pedro Sousa 4-6 6-1 7-5.
The world number 203 will play Gijs Brouwer of the Netherlands on Friday for a place in the main draw of the US Open.
Boulter missed out on the main draw after a 6-3 6-4 defeat by 18-year-old American Ashlyn Krueger, while Broady lost 6-4 1-6 4-6 to Bulgaria’s Dimitar Kuzmanov.
Meanwhile, 20-year-old Briton Jack Draper was beaten 6-4 6-4 by Marc-Andrea Huesler in the quarter-finals of the Winston-Salem Open in North Carolina.
Draper, who had earned wins over Fabio Fognini and Dominic Thiem to reach the last eight, will be making his debut in the main draw of an overseas major when he plays at the US Open and has been drawn against Finland’s Emil Ruusuvuori in the first round.
