Wet conditions made for a perilous start to the race in which Carlos Sainz lost control and brought out a caution, which turned into a long stoppage, after which the race was resumed behind the Safety Car.
Verstappen then led a shortened race, in which there was some confusion as to whether he would end up with enough points to secure the title. Charles Leclerc’s last-corner penalty only added to the intrigue.
