Colorado Takes Command in Resounding Game 2 Performance
The Colorado Avalanche have easily been one of the top offensive teams in the NHL this season and Thursday night’s 4-0 domination of the Edmonton Oilers underlined their mantra.
The Avalanche scored three goals in a 2:04 stretch early in the second period to help to bury the Oilers, 4-0, in Game 2 at Ball Arena in Denver on Thursday evening. Colorado’s first two goals were only 15 seconds apart as Artturi Lehkonen and Josh Manson went back-to-back at 3:58 and 4:13, respectively.
Nazem Kadri assisted the Avalanche’s first three goals as he now has six goals and eight assists in this year’s playoffs.
In addition, backup goalie Pavel Francouz stopped all 24 Oilers shots as he performed at a high level with starter Darcy Kuemper lost in Game 1 to an upper-body injury. Francouz has a 2.55 goals-againstaverage as he has posted a 15-5-1 record.
Avalanche Still Get Nod as Series Goes North
Colorado was listed as a favorite of (-200) in Game 1 and (-170) in Game 2 and now with Game 3 in Edmonton, Alberta, the Avalanche have been favored by (-1.5) and placed at (-180) as the favorite in Game 3.
Please Note:
The OVER/UNDER in what has been billed as an offensive show is still slated at (7) in the third game.
Colorado is 10-2 in its first 12 playoff games and has been a favorite in all 12 of those outings.
McDavid and Oilers Scorers Looking To Rebound at Home
Edmonton has to get some offensive lift although the six goals in Game 1 were not enough.
He had a goal and two assists in Game 1, but was shut out in Game 2 and established only two shots in his 22:43 on ice.
He has eight goals and 21 assists in the playoffs and established three assists on two different occasions. He only has that lone goal with six assists in five total games against Colorado so far this season.
Center Leon Draisaitl and left-winger Evander Kane are a pair of offensive spark plugs whom Oilers’ fans will be looking to score as well. Kane has 13 playoff goals, including a pair of hat tricks in a 4-1 win in Game 3 vs. Calgary and a 4-2 win in Game 6 vs. the Los Angeles Kings.
Meanwhile, Draisaitl hasn’t scored a goal in five consecutive playoff games after netting seven in Edmonton’s first nine outings. He also has 21 assists in the playoffs this season.
